A few months ago, my little family and I moved into a house in Sebastopol, CA. The art studio for Oh Melody Cave Illustration that I had squished into our previous one bedroom apartment (the art studio took up the entire bedroom, while Stephen and I set up camp in the living room), now has a much bigger room with quite the panoramic view. I’ve been slowly transforming the space into my dream illustration and art studio, and I’m excited to share that it’s all done!

This is a fun post, and one that I’ve been working on for awhile! In co-planning my best friend Nicole’s Pretty-in-Pink-New-York-Chic Bridal Shower, I’ve had a ton of fun figuring out the theme, and the decor that will go with it! I put together this mood-board to share with the bride and her mom (who is also planning it with me), and decided to make a blog post going over how you can also achieve the look!

My best friend Nicole and I have been in each other’s lives since kindergarten. We may not have always been in the same class, or even the same school, college, city, or state, but for the last 20+ years, we’ve always been there for each other. She was my Maid of Honor in my wedding 2 years ago, and when she recently became engaged herself, I was honored when she asked (or didn’t really ask, I think it was just kind of assumed) me to be her Matron of Honor, I giddily got to work planning out her Bachelorette and Bridal Shower.
In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with ya the Save The Dates for her Pretty-in-Pink-New-York-Chic Bridal Shower. Click below to follow through to the post, and to read more about what I’m working on at the moment! Muah ~

Where have I been off to? I blink and months have passed by. Last September I joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), started setting up shop at local street markets, and had a few promising children’s book leads that I started putting other projects on hold for.
Holidays came and went. Autumn through Winter seems to rush right past me nowadays, jam packed with birthdays and holidays and events and places to be. My birthday happens to land on the first day of Fall every year, a month later is my brother’s birthday and then Halloween, a week later is my husband’s birthday, ten days after that is our wedding anniversary, and then a week later is Thanksgiving. A month after that is Christmas and all the parties that happen when both sides of the family are divorced and there are 4 families that have to be seen and enjoyed, not to mention friends, travel, inevitable weddings, and New Years! A month to rest and then Valentines, my mom’s birthday, more birthdays and birthdays and weddings and HEY! It’s suddenly almost April!? Am I being punked?

A good college friend of mine, and amazing illustrator whose floral and intricate ink drawings I adore, Te Chao was sweet enough to name me at the end of her latest blog post, in a fun little continuous blog tour of awesome illustrators from around the world!

In five days time, it will have already been eight months since my wedding! I honestly don’t know where the time has gone (mmm, finishing the children’s book, the website… not honeymooning = sadface) …
BUT! I was delightfully treated to our wedding highlight video this last week (you can view it below!), and in getting ready to finally see the unveiling of the full length feature film of our entire day, I was asked to send in some of my favorite photos! So, the last few days I’ve sat myself down to edit a few of our wedding photos that Red Pepper Shots took last November to send to our amazing videographer, Jamie, from All Because He Asked!
Melody & Stephen Wedding Highlight Video; Laguna Beach, CA from All Because He Asked.

Hello my loves! I want to share with you the video book trailer for the book I illustrated, “Is There Enough?” (which is now available for purchase right here on the OhMelody Shop)! Many thanks to Jon from StayGrind Design who created the video, and Faye, Noah, & Zach Hartzell for storyboarding it out! I am so happy with how they brought my illustrations to life! This book is super sweet y’all!
Don’t forget to let me know what you think about the trailer in the comments!
Also, as I mentioned above (!), the shop on OhMelody.com is now live! Excitement abounds, & as the sun is rising on this spectacular day, I will finally be saying goodnight (after staying up to make sure every last little detail on the shop was taken care of!). And even with that, I’ll most likely be making some small edits here and there over the course of the next few days. If you see any broken links or have issues ordering (gasp!), be sure to let me know so that I can attend to the problem as fast as humanly possible!
The shop has a teeny tiny offering of products at the moment, just the “Is There Enough?” children’s book I illustrated and finished earlier this year, and a few adorable button pin designs taking illustrations from the book! But never fear, I’ll be posting up some more fun button designs, bookmarks, prints and more soon!
And just so you don’t forget! The first 100 purchase orders for the book will not only get signed books by yours truly, but will receive one free “Mother’s Heart” button pin with their order! Much loves!
One of the things I miss about living in Southern California is the amazing art galleries and art community that is found throughout it’s landscape. When I heard a few months ago that Mark Ryden would be showcasing his The Gay 90s: West exhibit at the the Kohn Gallery from the beginning of May through the end of June this year, I hoped beyond hope that Steve and I would be able to see it in person on our trip to visit friends and family at the end of May.
We barely made it, making a pit stop at the Hollywood gallery 30 mins before closing on May 27th, on our way to dropping off our rental car and getting to LAX for our flight home to San Francisco. Read on below for my personal review of the exhibit, my thoughts on Ryden’s art (fair warning: I’m a fan), and for visual inspiration and detailed shots of his work.
Hello friends! Today I thought I’d share some thoughts on names, personality, creativity & a little bit about my reasons for illustrating “Is There Enough?”! Be sure to click on the jump below to read on!
